Scott FintzenScott Fintzen graduated from Georgetown University’s School of Foreign Service in 1990, with a concentration in International Economics, a certificate in African Studies, and a proficiency in French. In 1993, he received his Juris Doctorate from Catholic University’s Columbus School of Law. After graduating from law school, Mr. Fintzen joined the Arlington, Virginia law firm of Pelton, Balland, Young, Demsky & Baskin, P.C., where his practice focused on criminal defense, civil litigation and the representation of small businesses. In 1995, Mr. Fintzen joined the Chicago law firm of Stamos & Trucco where his practice concentrated on civil litigation, employment law, tax-exempt organizations and for-profit businesses.

In September 1998, Mr. Fintzen became the Associate General Counsel for the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA), the sixth largest protestant denomination in the United States. At the ELCA, Mr. Fintzen provided legal counsel on a wide range of issues, including intellectual property, publishing, contracts, e-commerce, meeting and event planning, corporate governance, tax-exemption, fundraising, real estate, employment law, risk management, insurance coverage, litigation, and international law.

In March 2002, Mr. Fintzen formed Gaido & Fintzen with Peter Gaido with the vision of providing responsive, effective and high quality legal services to businesses, tax-exempt organizations, and individuals. Mr. Fintzen’s practice currently focuses on for-profit and tax-exempt organization formation, applying for and maintaining tax-exempt status, corporate governance, employment law, intellectual property, contracts, administrative law, e-commerce, insurance, risk management, real estate, leases, meeting and event planning, litigation, and international transactions.

Mr. Fintzen is the co-author of the Emergency Medicine Chapter for the 1996 IICLE, Medical Malpractice Manual, and the 1998 Supplement. He is the author of the ELCA’s Legal Guide to Meeting and Event Planning and the editor of the ELCA’s Attorney’s Association Manual. He is the author of the American Academy of Cosmetic Surgery’s Privileging Block Informational Packet and Litigation Assistance Informational Packet.

Mr. Fintzen served as a library trustee and alderman in his hometown of Geneva, Illinois. Mr. Fintzen is admitted to practice law in Illinois and is an associate member of the Virginia Bar.
